Sources of pollution
Most sources of pollution around the world are due to human interaction with the environment surrounding them. The Sonoran Desert is no special case either. There are various types of pollution in the Sonoran Desert, such as gas from vehicles, construction-related dust, power plant waste, exhaust from gas-powered lawn mowers, and exhaust from leaf blowers, which all contribute to the "brown cloud," a cloud literally made brown from pollution.
However, the primary reason for the majority of the pollution in the Sonoran Desert would be the seemingly endless amount of trash and waste. The majority of these items are: back-backs, water bottles or cans, food rappers, dirty clothing, human feces, and thousands of soiled baby diapers.

the effects of pollution in the desert
This vast amount of pollution can have various effects on the Sonoran environment. For example, the pollution provides a great breeding ground for diseases and germs. These are especially detrimental to the health of the environment and its wildlife because frequent dust and sandstorms can easily carry unhealthy germs across a wide amount of land, including the city of Phoenix. These storms could spread deadly disease-infested dirt through the air and far around the desert, endangering the health of all species in the desert in Phoenix, including humans in the city. According to Environmental Pollution Centers, chemicals coming from waste disposal such as mercury and lead, can cause nervous system, kidney, and liver damage. Other potential effects on the ecosystem is that the garbage provides food sources that are not native to the area. Species such as birds, flies, and insects would be happy to eat the this new abundance of food, what we know to be garbage, and can proliferate, causing negative effects upon the regulation in the ecosystem. Also, according to the the E.P.A., Environmental Protection Agency, studies show that if a certain area has been polluted by discarded items, then more immigrants will be inclined to do so as well. This means that the pollution will only continue to get worse, unless we step in and help efforts to create a cleaner, safer environment for the species in the Sonoran Desert surrounding the city of Phoenix, Arizona.
