WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE SONORAN DESERT WILDLIFE ASSOCIATION!
THe Sonoran Desert
The Sonoran Desert is a desert in the southwest corner of the United States, covering part of California, Arizona, and Mexico. It's the wettest and warmest desert in North America, boasting the highest biodiversity than any other desert that Earth has to offer. Over one hundred reptiles, two thousand native plants, sixty mammals, and three hundred fifty birds call the Sonoran their home, not only surviving there, but flourishing prosperously — for as long as their habitat remains hospitable, that is.

Welcome Visitor!
We, the Sonoran Desert Wildlife Association (SDWA), are a group of teenage students who would like to make a difference. And what better a place than to start in one of America's most beautiful and diverse ecosystems, the Sonoran Desert? We go on trips to the Sonoran and do all kinds of fun activities, improving our knowledge on the many diverse types of species in the area, and also their endangerment from human causes. During these trips, we do anything from preserving endangered species to something as thrilling as cleaning trash! We feel that by bettering such a unique environment, we are bettering ourselves. And the great thing is, you can too! All you need to do is send us an e-mail at:
[email protected]
with your name, phone number, and address. Within days you'll learn how you can join us on an adventure to the Sonoran Desert! We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Rees, Harry, and Jack

things you may need to know
~A wash is a river bed that is only filled with water for a short couple of weeks every year. In the Sonoran Desert, the washes are frequently used as paths by immigrants.
~"Desertification" has more than one hundred formal definitions, but is most widely accepted by the Princeton University Dictionary's definition as "the process of fertile land transforming into desert." It is also important to know that the English dictionary describes "desert" as "a dry, barren area of land, especially one covered with sand, that is characteristically desolate, waterless, and without vegetation."
